Discoveries show that mint has been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and Japan. According to Greek myth, the wife of Persephone's lover, the nymph Mentha, was turned into a mint in a fit of rage. According to Pliny, mint was used to crown Greeks and Romans during festivals. It has been used for medicinal purposes in England for centuries.
